WHEN  & WHAT

Followed by a Special “Hogwarts Reception” in Rogers Hall

Plus – Create your own magic at our Hogwarts Classes craft stations for both youth and adults!

WHAT TO WEAR

Attendees are invited to wear their Wizarding Wardrobe for this service, including: Hogwarts house uniforms, professors wear, or wizards and witches you might run into in Diagon Alley.

THEME

As we enter the fall season in which the Church celebrates All Souls Day and All Saints Day, this year we are inviting our youth and the adults in their lives into a deeper understanding and reflection on how popular literature and symbol systems can reflect significant Christian theology and teach us in important ways about ethical decision making, how to live grief and loss, and the importance of friendship and community.

This service will focus on the work of J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series and a practicing member of the Church of England. Her personal struggle for meaning throughout her life experiences as a young adult contributed to her understanding of how to navigate life’s challenges as she wrestled  the concepts of death and life after death – themes that are significant to people of every age as part of our human development.

The journey of Harry and his friends reflects how Rowling rediscovered the essential lessons and tenets of  Christian belief – including reconciling with the reality of human mortality, the awareness that those we love remain a part of us, and the mutual reliance on companions in this life and on God in this world and the next.

Come join us for this very special service as we celebrate the divine magic of life that resides in all of us and transforms the world through faith and friendship.
