What is National Night Out?

NATW (National Association of Town Watch) introduced National Night Out in August of 1984 through an already established network of law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups, state and regional crime prevention associations and volunteers across the nation. The first annual National Night Out involved 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states. However, the event soon grew to a celebration beyond just front porch vigils.

Neighborhoods across the nation began to host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more. Today, thirty-eight million neighbors in sixteen thousand communities across the nation take part in National Night Out.

Trinity Episcopal Church will be participating in this year’s National Night Out.  We have had the desire to reach out into the community at large and get to know our neighbors.  As part of our 125th Anniversary, here is an opportunity to do so.  It is on Tuesday, August 1st from 4-8 in our church parking lot.  You can come for all, or part of the event.  We will be having food, activities, and (schedule permitting) community first responders in attendance.  We are looking for people to assist with bringing food, games or activities to engage children in attendance, help set up or help clean up.

Lisa Wright will be in the Narthex each Sunday between the 8 and 10am services and following the 10am service.  Please see her if you have any questions, want to contribute, or just want to show up!  She can also be reached at 425-877-6324 by email at Lisa Wright.  Thank you!
